3 month collaborative project between International Architecture Biennial Rotterdam, Waterschap De Dommel and Design Academy Eindhoven
Multidisciplinary Team of 3 (Elena Zhagis, Ieva Valuele, Poorvi Garag - my role being design research and object design)

Hydrotopia 2050 is a speculative live- action role play (LARP) game set in the year 2050,where participants reflect on past efforts to overcome drought due to climate change.

Through myth-making, storytelling, and playful sabotage, participants explore the interdependence between humans and
more-than-human actors, imagining restorative futures.

Formed during the Ice Age, the landscape of the Berlin-Brandenburg region is predominantly water-scarce, rendering immense ecosystem pressure on this land-waterscape. Lake Müggelsee in Berlin- Brandenburg, is a functional and recreational water source for citizens and communities like the FKKFreikörperkultur.

The new (2022) Tesla Gigafactory in Berlin Brandenburg aims to produce 20000 electric cars per month which would consume 14 million cubic centimeters of water a year.

Through interviews of FKK members, activists of the water crisis and the Tesla gigafactory and on field research in Müggelsee, we were able to design a Live Action Role Play game and a video.
Game players embody the future 2050, and reflect on efforts to overcome water Challenges of today through various Ancestors, Value and Tools. In the present, this solar punk method of reflective game
playing inspires us to envision restorative justice for a more equitable and sustainable world where our interdependence with each other and with the natural world is fully recognized and celebrated as an alternative to climate doom.
